The Golden State Warriors are in the intriguing position of having a strong core and two lottery choices, and there seems to be a possibility that the team could use those choices as pieces to get back into the fight quickly.
According to John Hollinger of Athletic, Talking to the NBA Combine was that the Warriors wanted to use their lottery choices, and even center James Wiseman, to get more immediate help. Selection No. 7 would be the biggest chip, while Wiseman, the second overall pick in the 2020 draft, would also intrigue many teams.
One name that Hollinger mentions as a possible target for the Warriors is Toronto Raptors forward Pascal Siakam.
The position of the Warriors makes a lot of sense. They are not like most other lottery teams as they are built to fight now. Stephen Curry is 33 years old, while Draymond Green and Klay Thompson are both 31. The Warriors ’goal is to have those three heart-healthy players in 2021-22, and there will be a sense of urgency to try to win back while they are theoretically still in their infancy. Wiseman and lottery selectors are probably not very helpful in achieving that goal.
Golden State has been linked to other big names via commerce already this season. The Warriors will be a team to watch as the project approaches.
