The military coup in Myanmar took an absurd turn on Monday as a video spread on social media of a woman dancing in front of armored vehicles.
The aerobics video appeared to have been filmed Monday morning when the shot was fired, capturing a surreal scene of a military takeover planned for a lively electronic rhythm. The woman, named Khing Hnin Wai, dances for three minutes, seemingly ignorant of what is going on behind her. According to her Facebook profile, she is a physical education teacher employed by the country’s Ministry of Education.
The video was so incredible that viewers began to wonder if it was dancing in front of a green screen. They pointed to the shadow behind the woman, part of which disappears in the video.
But it is unlikely that the video was fake. A search for the location shows dancing on the steps of a turntable not far from the Myanmar Parliament, which is why the shadow seems to be cut. Images from the street sent by Aric Toler, Bellingcat researcher also confirm the location.
Later in the day, the PE teacher herself posted other exercise videos filmed in the same place. He did not immediately respond to an interview request from BuzzFeed News.
