The Prosecutor will review the death of Matiss Kivlenieks of Blue Jackets

Columbus Jackets Blue goalkeeper Matiss Kivlenieks tragically he is dead July 4th at home of Columbus guard trainer Manny Legace in Novi, Mich., after an accident with fireworks left him with a fatal petal trauma.

According to The Associated Press (h / t ESPN), the Nine Police Department did not ask for any charges related to Kivlenieks’ passing, and the investigation was forwarded to a prosecutor for review.

“Because of the high-profile nature, we wanted an extra set of eyes [on the case], “Lieutenant Jason Meier explained Monday. It was said last week that Kivlenieks’ death was considered a” tragic accident, “and Meier reiterated that position.

Kivlenieks, who would have turned 25 next month, would have been in a hot tub when he tried not to be caught by a stray firework. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

Out of eight NHL appearances, he recorded an average of 3.09 goals versus a save percentage of 0.899. He spent time with the Cleveland Monsters of the American Hockey League during the 2020-21 season.
