An explosion at a market has rocked Gaza City, killing at least one person and injuring 10 others, according to Palestinian officials.
Some injured were in critical condition and were taken to Shifa main hospital after Thursday’s explosion at the Zawiya market. It was not immediately clear what had caused the explosion.
Iyad al-Buzum, spokesman for the interior minister in the besieged coastal enclave, said the explosion took place in a multi-storey residential building, which led to the collapse of much of the structure. Nearby homes and businesses also suffered property damage.
Al-Buzum said police, civil defense and ambulance forces had been mobilized, while an investigation into the cause of the explosion had been opened.
