Orlando Magic takes on Jamahl Mosley as next coach

Mosley, 42, has worked as an assistant in the NBA since 2005. He began his coaching career with the Denver Nuggets, serving as a player development coach and scout from 2005-07. Denver promoted him to assistant coach in 2007, a role he held for three years before joining the Cleveland Cavaliers (2010-14).

He was then hired by the Dallas Mavericks, working alongside Rick Carlisle. Mosley became the Mavericks ’defensive coordinator before the 2018 season and played a crucial role in the development of many young players. He also has a close relationship with Luka Doncic, one of the best player in the NBA.

With a couple of top-10 choices in the next 2021 NBA Draft, Mosley will have a great opportunity to shape the careers of two promising young talents.

While Magic is likely for several years to be contested, the franchise seems to have taken the right steps toward building a strong foundation for long-term success.
