U Philadelphia Philadelphia added defensive reinforcements ahead of the 2021-22 season.
According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, the Flyers have acquired it Ryan Ellis yes u Predators of Nashville in exchange for Nolan Patrick and Philippe Myers. The Predators return Patrick to the Vegas Golden Knights for Cody Glass.
Ellis had spent his entire 10-year career in Nashville. The 30-year-old has amassed 270 points (75 assists, 195 assists) in 562 games.
The Canadian joins a defensive unit in Philadelphia that includes Shayne Gostisbehere, Justin Braun, Robert Hagg, Ivan Provorov and Travis Sanheim.
The Flyers were one of the worst defensive teams in the NHL last season, allowing a league-high 197 goals, equivalent to 3.52 goals per game. They also had the second-highest death penalty in the league at 70.95%.
Adding Ellis was a solid deal for the Flyers, but that move alone won’t help the defense turn things around.
Patrick was the second overall pick in the 2017 NHL Draft. The 22-year-old has amassed 70 points (30 assists, 40 assists) in 197 games in three seasons.
Glass, selected sixth overall in 2017, scored 22 points (nine goals, 13 assists) in 66 games.
