The Los Angeles Dodgers have placed star outfielder Mookie Betts on the injured list with hip inflammation, according to Fabian Ardaya of Athletic.
Betts started in the seventh inning of LA’s 9-2 win over the Colorado Rockies on July 17 with what the team called right hip irritation. After the game, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Betts had dealt with a hip problem for most of the 2021 season.
The 28-year-old is in his second season with the Dodgers, hitting .270 / .374 / .502 with 14 home runs and 40 RBIs in 82 games. He won his fifth All-Star selection this year but did not play in the game due to injury.
In addition to Betts, Corey Seager and Gavin Lux are also on the injured list, and Cody Bellinger is dealing with a muscle problem.
The Dodgers are second in the NL West with a 60-40 record, just two games behind the San Francisco Giants top division. Despite injuries to several key players, the Dodgers ’primary focus on the expiration of the trade is expected to be pitching.
