Deion Sanders is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the current football coach of the Jackson State Tigers and, as such, has met much of his press obligations over the years.
According to Langston Newsome of the Mississippi Clarion-Ledger, Sanders left the SWAC media event prematurely, all because he felt disrespectful that someone called him by his first name.
“Don’t call me Nick Saban, ‘Nick.’ Don’t call me Deion,” Sanders told Nick Suss of the Clarion-Ledger. “If you call Nick (Saban), Nick, you’re going to be kicked on the spot, so don’t bother me.”
Then Sanders left after the second time he had been called by his first name.
As well as Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk is others were ready to note, Sanders was incorrect in saying that no journalist referred to Saban by his name during the seasons. However, Coach Prime took to Twitter to address the “stupidity” he seemed to be laughing at:
