De’Andre Hunter comes out for postseason with a torn meniscus


Falcons in the second year De’Andre Hunter he missed the team’s first two games of the round two series with the 76ers with swollen right knee. After an MRI, the initial review revealed a small tear in the lateral meniscus, according to him a team press release. Hunter is scheduled to fly to Los Angeles for surgery Tuesday. He will miss the rest of the postseason.

This will be Hunter’s second surgery on his right knee this season, and it marks the end of a second-year injury in the NBA. Hunter had started the year playing the best basketball of his young career, but was injured just 19 games into the season. He finished the year after playing only 23 games.

After a promising return during the Hawks ’first series against the Knicks, Hunter was back in the injury report due to a swollen knee. The young striker averaged 10.8 points and 4.0 rebounds against the Knicks, shooting 40% from the floor and 37.5% from three.

This diagnosis puts to rest any hopes of Hunter returning during the playoffs.

With second-year companies Red Cam still recovering from an injured Achilles, the Falcons must rely on more minutes than veteran wings Danilo Gallinari, Solomon Hill and Tony Snell.
