Cam Newton, quarterback of the New England Patriots, says an injury to his spear shoulder suffered in 2016 took years to heal and changed the way he plays football.
The former MVP posted one video to YouTube Friday he filmed in September 2020 in which he said he was starting to feel his old way for the first time in years.
Newton injured his throwing shoulder in December 2016 while trying to make an attack after launching an interception.
“I’m healthy,” Newton said. “The last time I was healthy, I can document, honestly, (it was) 2016 and ’17. It’s just a fact. After that damn San Diego game – we played the San Diego Chargers, (and) I I came out and I dove (after) I launched an interception, I broke my AC joint. And since then, brother, it has been only a part of me that has been like a wounded dog, like a lion wounded all over the place. Not right. I feel good sometimes, but when I run, I always feel it. “
It’s unclear why Newton posted the video now when he made the comments months ago. He added in the video that he felt much healthier entering the 2020 season, which was his first in New England.
However, the video draws attention to the fact that Newton has been hampered by medical problems since he brought the Carolina Panthers to the Super Bowl in 2015. Since that season, Newton has played a full campaign only once, suffering injuries. of shoulders and legs ending the season. both 2018 and 2019.
Newton has signed back with the Patriots for the 2021 season and is expected to be the rookie. However, rookie quarterback Mac Jones could recover if he struggles or suffers another injury.
