In collaboration with our friends at FOND Bone Broth
In theory, avoiding the afternoon nap is simple: Get enough sleep, keep your stress load reasonable, eat balanced meals throughout the day, and don’t overdo your caffeine. Then there’s the reality: Haha. Also, part of the reason why some of us get tired after lunch might just be in our nature — or at least our own. circadian rhythm.
In the days when postlunch dip hits for any reason, there are four strategies that work for us.
Often the decline happens because your meals are unbalanced, either lacking in protein or relying too much on carbohydrates to fill you up. A small snack can give you a boost. One of our favorite things to do is to drink some hot bone broth from FOND. We think of it as a stand-in supped-up for an afternoon snack, which works for two reasons: It’s caffeine-free, to save you from continued energy crashes, which could put you off more with your circadian rhythm. And each serving has about eight grams of protein to keep you going. There are eight wonderful flavors to choose from, and lately we loved the one Clean Spring-That the lemon cut is invigorating and the finish is so clean. FOND uses organic chicken bones raised in pastures and organic vegetables, herbs and aromatics of sustainable origin. We also cook cereals with bone broth to eat all week. Makes any bowl of wheat or salad much better.

Moving your body in the afternoon can help with energy and make you feel more alert. Ideal for sunbathing outdoors with fresh air. It doesn’t have to be a complete workout – try a walk around the block when you start to feel slow. Adding ankle and wrist weights can increase the ante. If you can’t get outside, try approaching a window for some natural light, and if you can open it to catch some wind, better. Moving to a standing desk after lunch can help keep your body engaged on the days when you are attached to your computer.
Stimulate your senses: Try to add an uplifting citrus scent to your diffuser. Splash your face with cool water or use a gentle wipe. Give yourself a mini spa treatment with a face roller or a dry brush.

STOP A REST
Sometimes it’s not worth fighting for. You are tired, and sleep is what your body needs. If you are able to sleep, try to keep it short and on the previous side – a long or late sleep will probably continue to cause problems with the natural sleep cycle.
